Yay, it's not a tag! Here are rules:
-you can choose to do this or not
-post the rules if you do
-have fun doing it!
1. When did you first like writing?
Tough question, actually. I can't remember. Why do I write again?
2. Do you feel that talent is necessary to become a great writer?
While you do need originality and a decent sense of self-criticism to make a decent story to begin with, you still need to put in a lot of effort, frustration and, most importantly, practice. It's nothing you know from the start. So, I'd say that you might need talent, but when it comes to writing, inspiration and practice are key.
3. Are you proud of your work so far?
Well… I'm not really the appreciative type but yeah, I guess I am.
At least I'm glad I no longer suck as bad as I did at the beginning.
4. Strengths? Weaknesses?
Strengths? Let's see… we got some creativity, a bit of originality, more than enough self criticism and a lot of inspiration. I like to think I know when something fits in with the rest of the story, sort of like a flow, but it takes a while until I find the right one. Way too long. I can also almost picture what a character would do in a given situation, but it requires that I get in character myself. Which means I gotta think like they think, and that takes a bit of frustration and immersion. Not to mention I sometimes feel I'm going insane. Oh well, I don't need a hard head to crack to have my own cracked
I'm actually just listening one song over and over right now, as I feel my neurons clawing against my skull. Or maybe it's the late hour…
Weaknesses: well, I dunno, the fact that I'm human in mental capacity. Well, some level of human anyway. And human is always gonna be frustrating.
5. Tricky question time! What's a common goal in your artistic/written pieces?
That's actually the easiest question so far. All I want is to give my characters a fair, creative and awe-inspiring story. Make it interesting, cool, comedic, tragic, everything I can. Make them human, if not more.
6. Do you have any original stories to share? Or do you prefer to do fan-related projects? Both are cool!
Indeed, both are cool! I have a certain original series, though I try (and so far fail) to make the characters as complex as I can. I dunno WHAT they're missing, and it's just tiresome. Hell, I can't even make up my mind concerning the title of the series.
Another original series could be considered the journal I'm having one of my OC's write for a roleplaying group I'm taking part in.
And fan-work. There's the bane and blessing of my existence, my "Time lords and talking ponies" crossover. I put in a lot of work in it so far, and it seems to be getting along so far. I have a mind-numbing amount of ideas for future chapters which I just can't seem to write. I can't even get to the first one T_T
7. Current favourite character that you've designed? / Current favourite existing character?
Doctor Whooves. It's Doctor Who, but as a pony. He's by far the most complex and fun one.
8. Do you give your characters theme songs?
Now that you mention it, no I don't. I do sometimes associate the situation they get themselves in with some corresponding background music though.
9. Name three big creative influences!
So many @_@ only three?
Well, besides the two universes I'm colliding, which are just awesome individually, let alone together, there's a number of genres that enriched my knowledge base with helpful stuff. Sherlock Holmes (either the movies or either book-inspired cartoons and TV shows. I've yet to buy the book yet, unfortunately), Spiral, Code Geass, Requiem for the Phantom, Death Note, Darker Than Black, House M.D., Once upon A Time, plus a ton of reading on either DeviantArt or FimFiction.
*Edit: I've also always been fascinated by fantastic stories. I've finished two books on ancient Greek legends when I was little and loved them. Guliver's travels got me hooked at one point, earning me a nick-name in class from a very aggravating classmate. Anyway, yeah, I would also read books, as in actual books, but lately I've been distracted by this pesky internet.
10. What creative work are you currently focused on?
Right now? I'm rather stuck. I always think about either one story, so right now I'm just going to take a breather.
11. Latest source of inspiration?
Doctor Who, other fanfics, dreams… one of these, I can't remember which one anymore.
12. How has this affected your creative work? Specific examples?
Besides helping me get in synch with the character I want to imagine, they give me a general idea of what might happen later on and they offer research material.
13. Almost done with these questions! What's your general reaction to seeing other people's art/reading their stories?
If it's interesting (and relevant to my interests), then it's great. A good read is always welcome. But if it's a bad read (meaning unoriginal, boring or flawed in some way), then no, I don't like.
14. What's your response to constructive criticism? Do you like it, or not?
I'd be actually glad to GET it. It seems there's a great lack of it in the comment sections of my work posts.
15. Your reaction to the art community? Likes, dislikes?
Yeah, well, it's great. Everything about it is great. It has everything you need: better artwork to get inspired off of; worse artwork to make you feel better about yourself; trolls to keep yourself in check;
16. Hardest thing about being an artist/writer?
So far, getting a decent start.
17. Easiest thing about being an artist/writer?
The fact that it's easy.
18. So close to the end! Is art/writing a hobby for you, or is it a business path?
Hobby. I can't afford to actually make this into a job.
19. Your dreams for the future? 8D
Finishing my bloody stories. And making them good. One can only dream…
20. Thanks for answering all... or most of these questions! Do you have any closing notes for your readers that made it to the end?
I have quite a few actually…
First off, doing something because you like it doesn't always qualify as practice. It's only practice if you're holding in mind that you're actually trying to improve yourself while doing it. If you're just doing it for the heck of it, because you like it yourself, without giving heed to feedback or concern for what the final product might turn out to be, then it's nothing more than a masturbatory act. You do it because you like it, without caring what others might think of it at all? Just posting because it seems cool to get feedback? Then I don't even want to know you.
At the same time, you also need to keep in mind that you have to try to enjoy yourself whilst attending the hobby in question. Just… do it productively. That is, if you're going to ask for feedback anyway.
Anything else? Well, there's the importance of doing what you like, in parallel with doing what you need to do… But that's not really entirely related. Just… do what you feel's right.
