Casual update

3 min read
Yeah, so... I've started reading Homestuck. And right now, the only thing I can say is an awe-consumed F word which would never live up to the amount of satisfaction that this story offers. I could offer a link to the part that'd managed to peak my interest and spilled over, but I have too much creative integrity to that. A culmination point is, indeed, awe-inspiring, but the series of events which lead to it are even more valuable.
Even if the whole thing is just a massive wibbly wobbly mess, of the timey variety, the execution is outstanding. Leaving aside the fairytale-esque theme that I tend to like so much myself. And all the major character and storyline elements which just suck you right in and fondle your creative yearnings and literary fancies...
Also, the eventual flash animations are very well set up. Like ticking time bombs of awesome that are set up from well ahead, and when they do finally set off, you're not disappointed.

It definitely is all it's cooked up to be. And the writer definitely is in the field for a while, as he mastered the art of storytelling.

*Edit

Then again, the only thing Andrew Hussie had managed was to figure out exactly how much information is required to be given to the reader, and which information is to be appreciated. Nothing about a year's worth of practice can't cover.
And if it weren't for the generic tropes that he used to fill out the inevitable gaps in plot, I'd even go as far as saying his work is by any degree more... uhm... damnit, I'm not certain what I'm even bothered about.
It's just that all the meddlesome psychics and agents of omniscient, omnipotent demons and such are just a bit too many for my liking. It's all a bit too hand-stitched to be ignored.
Actually no. It's not hand stitched, it's not full of plotholes that it requires the eventual covering with bandaid. Half the bloody thing is made up of bandaid. The bloke integrated bandaid into the main materials section.

It's true that as the story progresses and the plot thickens, plotholes are impossible to avoid. But that's no reason to give up on trying at all! I mean sure, you could just cut off the story's legs and just keep replacing them with crutches as need would arise, but it's not a pretty thing.

**Edit again
Turns out I was wrong. The guy went beyond the norm and went for themes such as paradoxical time travel and made them work. Which is kinda hard to figure out... How the hell did he do it...

Hah! He realized that there's no way to avoid plotholes and the such anyway, so he just stopped trying and went along with the problem. Made it into a resource he could harvest.

How should I explain... When you work with time travel, you're setting yourself for failure, usually. Hussie found a way to work around that. He made paradoxes and plotholes into something tangible to fight against! He practically had the characters fight through impossible odds, and actually earn the right to recreate the world around them, to turn back time and alter continuity. He made time travel stories his bitch!

It's not really anything I'd freely throw in here, hoping there would be someone from my "many" followers that would go out of their way and throw a helping hand my way after they read it. But meh, I'm really against asking for help in general, leaving aside the less than serious theme that I'm unwillingly sending your way this way, but this is... mediocre in urgency. It's about my Doc Whooves serieswww.fimfiction.net/story/3956/…
I need to figure out a name for the late husband of one of my main characters, Ditzy Doo. This question would be more suited to be asked in one of the many forums the respective community had brought up, buuut I'm having trouble finding the appropriate one. So I'm asking you guys.

On another note, I'm still alive! And I'm still working on both the previously mentioned story, AND my Rogue Elements journal. I'm just gonna be a tad busy, leaving this stuff as a side-project. So it's gonna be a while until I update either of the two. So there's not going to be any change in the frequency of my updates. Cause you know... it was slow to begin with. Sloooooooooow... T_T

Yeah, and, another thing. Merry Christmas (though late, sorry about that)

Yay, it's not a tag! Here are rules:
-you can choose to do this or not
-post the rules if you do
-have fun doing it!

1. When did you first like writing?
Tough question, actually. I can't remember. Why do I write again?

2. Do you feel that talent is necessary to become a great writer?
While you do need originality and a decent sense of self-criticism to make a decent story to begin with, you still need to put in a lot of effort, frustration and, most importantly, practice. It's nothing you know from the start. So, I'd say that you might need talent, but when it comes to writing, inspiration and practice are key.

3. Are you proud of your work so far?
Well… I'm not really the appreciative type but yeah, I guess I am.
At least I'm glad I no longer suck as bad as I did at the beginning.

4. Strengths? Weaknesses?
Strengths? Let's see… we got some creativity, a bit of originality, more than enough self criticism and a lot of inspiration. I like to think I know when something fits in with the rest of the story, sort of like a flow, but it takes a while until I find the right one. Way too long. I can also almost picture what a character would do in a given situation, but it requires that I get in character myself. Which means I gotta think like they think, and that takes a bit of frustration and immersion. Not to mention I sometimes feel I'm going insane. Oh well, I don't need a hard head to crack to have my own cracked :P I'm actually just listening one song over and over right now, as I feel my neurons clawing against my skull. Or maybe it's the late hour…
Weaknesses: well, I dunno, the fact that I'm human in mental capacity. Well, some level of human anyway. And human is always gonna be frustrating.

5. Tricky question time! What's a common goal in your artistic/written pieces?
That's actually the easiest question so far. All I want is to give my characters a fair, creative and awe-inspiring story. Make it interesting, cool, comedic, tragic, everything I can. Make them human, if not more.

6. Do you have any original stories to share? Or do you prefer to do fan-related projects? Both are cool!
Indeed, both are cool! I have a certain original series, though I try (and so far fail) to make the characters as complex as I can. I dunno WHAT they're missing, and it's just tiresome. Hell, I can't even make up my mind concerning the title of the series.
Another original series could be considered the journal I'm having one of my OC's write for a roleplaying group I'm taking part in.
And fan-work. There's the bane and blessing of my existence, my "Time lords and talking ponies" crossover. I put in a lot of work in it so far, and it seems to be getting along so far. I have a mind-numbing amount of ideas for future chapters which I just can't seem to write. I can't even get to the first one T_T

7. Current favourite character that you've designed? / Current favourite existing character?
Doctor Whooves. It's Doctor Who, but as a pony. He's by far the most complex and fun one.

8. Do you give your characters theme songs?
Now that you mention it, no I don't. I do sometimes associate the situation they get themselves in with some corresponding background music though.

9. Name three big creative influences!
So many @_@ only three?
Well, besides the two universes I'm colliding, which are just awesome individually, let alone together, there's a number of genres that enriched my knowledge base with helpful stuff. Sherlock Holmes (either the movies or either book-inspired cartoons and TV shows. I've yet to buy the book yet, unfortunately), Spiral, Code Geass, Requiem for the Phantom, Death Note, Darker Than Black, House M.D., Once upon A Time, plus a ton of reading on either DeviantArt or FimFiction.
*Edit: I've also always been fascinated by fantastic stories. I've finished two books on ancient Greek legends when I was little and loved them. Guliver's travels got me hooked at one point, earning me a nick-name in class from a very aggravating classmate. Anyway, yeah, I would also read books, as in actual books, but lately I've been distracted by this pesky internet.

10. What creative work are you currently focused on?
Right now? I'm rather stuck. I always think about either one story, so right now I'm just going to take a breather.

11. Latest source of inspiration?
Doctor Who, other fanfics, dreams… one of these, I can't remember which one anymore.

12. How has this affected your creative work? Specific examples?
Besides helping me get in synch with the character I want to imagine, they give me a general idea of what might happen later on and they offer research material.

13. Almost done with these questions! What's your general reaction to seeing other people's art/reading their stories?
If it's interesting (and relevant to my interests), then it's great. A good read is always welcome. But if it's a bad read (meaning unoriginal, boring or flawed in some way), then no, I don't like.

14. What's your response to constructive criticism? Do you like it, or not?
I'd be actually glad to GET it. It seems there's a great lack of it in the comment sections of my work posts.

15. Your reaction to the art community? Likes, dislikes?
Yeah, well, it's great. Everything about it is great. It has everything you need: better artwork to get inspired off of; worse artwork to make you feel better about yourself; trolls to keep yourself in check;

16. Hardest thing about being an artist/writer?
So far, getting a decent start.

17. Easiest thing about being an artist/writer?
The fact that it's easy.

18. So close to the end! Is art/writing a hobby for you, or is it a business path?
Hobby. I can't afford to actually make this into a job.

19. Your dreams for the future? 8D
:iconwth2plz: Finishing my bloody stories. And making them good. One can only dream…

20. Thanks for answering all... or most of these questions! Do you have any closing notes for your readers that made it to the end?
I have quite a few actually…
First off, doing something because you like it doesn't always qualify as practice. It's only practice if you're holding in mind that you're actually trying to improve yourself while doing it. If you're just doing it for the heck of it, because you like it yourself, without giving heed to feedback or concern for what the final product might turn out to be, then it's nothing more than a masturbatory act. You do it because you like it, without caring what others might think of it at all? Just posting because it seems cool to get feedback? Then I don't even want to know you.
At the same time, you also need to keep in mind that you have to try to enjoy yourself whilst attending the hobby in question. Just… do it productively. That is, if you're going to ask for feedback anyway.
Anything else? Well, there's the importance of doing what you like, in parallel with doing what you need to do… But that's not really entirely related. Just… do what you feel's right.

Behold! I have written pony fanfiction! And now, upon retrospect, I ask myself why...
Oh right, because I thought it was funny. And I apparently had some great ideas for it. Oh well, it was fun and dandy, but all the sunny and fuzzy started to get annoying.
Is it wrong to love some characters of a fanfiction, although you hate the main theme of the story itself? Whatever, I'm just gonna finish this chapter I'm almost done writing and start doing something else... I've already promised to make a Rogue Elements thing for some time now, not to mention I have to clean the dust off of Special Few.
Oh, and sorry if I wasn't as active as I usually was. I guess I had a few stuff I had to take care of. And I'm also planning to continue being busy for a while longer...

Firstly, there's just something I need to ask (and hopefully, there's someone that's gonna answer @_@). En fin.
For some time now, I've been doing this crossover fanfic thing. It seems that for some reason I'm really intrigued by Doctor Who and the My Little Pony universe. That's okay, if only I didn't seem to have trouble convincing myself to do anything else. But that's not the issue either. The question I had would be: what does anyone else think about this story I made up? I mean what's your personal opinion of it: is it weird, neat or just plain nerdy and I need to get a life.
It's just that I was pretty inspired about this thing when I started, and I have a bunch of ideas for it. I also might have a knack for coming up with cheesy scenarios and all I wanted was to have someone be impressed with what I do.

Secondly, I'd like to ask about other people's personal opinion about people maintaining friendly relationships with each other, although they never actually meet. I dunno, it just seems weird to me for some reason. So... what do you think?
Go ahead. Talk.
